"as far as I'm concerned, as long as people believe that only their holy book or only their holy word matters and is relevant, then there will be no solution. And that's why it takes committed and courageous leadership to provide an answer and solution that addresses the greater good for all."

These are the words uttered by Christiane Amanpour, author of the CNN series “"God's Warriors"” in response to the question “Do you see any compromise one could offer to calm these hysterical masses and avoid ultimate disaster? “ The series focused on the intersection of religion and politics and committed two hours towards three major world religions - Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. In my opinion, the series did a fair job of displaying how personal and complex the belief systems are for each religion. For an individual like me who believes in the power of manifestation through thoughts and beliefs, the collective power of these religions was unsettling in that all three groups appear to be more focused on being right instead of finding common ground for all to live in peace. iPals

Roderick Watkins

Today we find ourselves in the midst of an information expansion that is essentially establishing itself as the Worlds digital nervous system. This new way of storing and distributing information has forever changed the way we communicate and has exponentially increased our ability to virtually touch others across the globe.

Quick story…several years ago I befriended a few people on-line and despite never having physically met these internet pals –who I affectionately call iPals- they have been and continue to be, an important role in my life. Through our numerous emails and IM’s we have managed to establish trust, admiration, and a genuine fondness for each other; so much so that I consider them just as important to my life as my friends in the traditional sense.

However and interestingly enough, Professor Mehrabian of the University of California at Los Angeles ("Go Bruins!") examined how one receives and responds to live, person-to-person communication. Through his research he discovered that 55% of communication is either expressed facially, through body posture or gestures; 38% percent is communicated through the tone of ones voice and 7% can be attributed to words. Keep in mind this is communication with someone standing right in front of you.

Given the above, the question one is left asking is ‘Considering a staggering 93% of information we use to interpret conversations is physical, what happens when two people communicate across a keyboard?’ It makes me wonder how much of any relationship, physical or virtual, is imagined or real. Is there an unconscious connection of which we are not aware? Perhaps a spiritual connection that allows us to communicate to soul mates despite obstacles such as space and time? Maybe one-day there will be an answer to these questions but for now, I'm just grateful to have iPals in my life.

Out-of-body experience recreated

Talk about blurring the lines between physical and virtual check out this BBC News article on out of body experiences. I've often wondered is consciouness only a localized phenomona tied to our bodies. This research implies that we may beable to expand beyond our mortal shells. Can you say "Ghost in the Shell"?

Conscious Expansion

"Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."

Above is one of my favorite qoutes by Albert Einstein. . I liken this quote to a yoga exercise for the mind, which allows me to bend and stretch those parts that tend to be resistant to change as I grow older. Wikipedia refers to it as Neuroplasticity: the changes that occur in the organization of the brain a result of experience. Neuroplasticity affords me the ability to incorporate new perspectives into my conscious make up, by challenging old beliefs that may no longer have significance in this stage of my life. So try out some mental yoga and see which beliefs you have from your youth that are still applicable today or do they need to be stretched.

Hypnotherapy
By Roderick Watkins

For the last decade psychology and psychiatry have gained in popularity. These mainstream practices have proven to be of great benefit, but can also have some draw backs associated with them such as the need to diagnosis, pathologize or indicate a dysfunction maybe present within the individual (though this may not always be the case). This can cause many to stay away from the benefits that therapy has to offer for fear of being stigmatized. Those who are simply looking to deal with healing, day to day issues or to just improve their present state of being find themselves looking for alternatives.
Hypnotherapy is an alternative behavioral therapy gaining momentum in the mainstream. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to facilitate healing, positive behavioral changes, and expand one’s self awareness.

Many people familiar with hypnosis usually associate it with stage performance such as making people act in an atypical manners (examples include acting like babies or animals). Some also may associate hypnosis with aiding individuals with smoking cessation or weight management. Although these are beneficial to the individual they barely display or tap into the true power of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy has been proven to help with: Addictive behaviors, Anxiety, Depression, Phobias, Increased self esteem, insomnia, pain management, performance enhancement and more.
Hypnosis works by inducing a meditative or trance state that allows the individual to access the unconscious or subconscious mind. Once in this state, individuals can retrieve, modify, resolve or remove thoughts that will benefit your emotional, physical, mental and spiritual being. Research continues on the benefits of hypnosis, the best way to determine this is to try it for you. Hypnotherapy is safe and confidential. Hypnosis in Science

As more people continue to benefit from hypnosis it should be no surprise that scientist are looking for physical evidence of its effects on the body. I find this research very exciting as it indicates the transition of hypnotherapy from a pseudoscience into a legitimate form of therapy thereby ushering hypnosis into the mainstream allowing a larger audience to benefit. The article connected to this link (SCIAM) how hypnosis affects the brain using an MRI. Although this research in its early stages it has already proven that there is a physical effect in the brain and not imagined.

Conscious Expansion

Neither Success nor Suffering implies worthiness. One's selfworth is validated by one's choice to believe s/he is worthy.

As we mature through our lives we collect many experiences during this process. It’s no wonder that we attach a lot a value to the accolades and battle scares that we gather on this journey. Although past ornament should be remembered they should not be used to invalidate or validate your existence… Or the rights you deserve while going through this human experience. You are worthy of everything that the Universe has to offer simply because you exist. We are extensions of the Universe and posses all the qualities of the Universe that we are apart. So next time, you find yourself doubting your presence circumstance remember that your existence alone validates your presence state of being or else this moment would not exist.
